Loading the mga_vid module

Hello,

I compiled
mga_vid-2.6.18-2006-09-27.tar.gz (mga_vid_test is OK) and mplayer-1.0rc1.tar.bz2 (playing videofiles is OK) successfully

and created a file
/etc/udev/ruled.d/32-mga_vid.rules which obviously works as the device file /dev/mga_vid0 and the link /dev/mga_vid appear, BUT

they appear only after loading mga_vid by typing
modprobe mga_vid

I thought starting mplayer would initiate some process which loads the module automatically?
Or did I understand something wrong?

Thanks for Your lines
Markus

No, the behaviour you want is that of devfs which was
thrown out of the kernel quite long ago. udev receives
from the kernel data which hardware is available. But
therefor the kernel needs to know what hardware it can
support for which the driver is needed.

Ie, you need to add the mga_vid module to the list
of modules that should be loaded at system boot
(/etc/modules on my debian).
